About half of workplace blowups start from a simple mistake: we assume we know why someone did what they did—then build a whole story on that guess. Today we’ll zoom in on those tiny, silent leaps our brains make, and how changing them can quietly change your whole day.

Sixty-five to eighty percent of the time, people get the *reason* for someone else’s behavior wrong. Not the surface details—who said what, who sent which email—but the invisible “why” underneath. That misfire doesn’t just live in your head; it quietly rewrites your relationships, your sense of who’s “on your side,” even how safe you feel speaking up.

This is where a few surprisingly simple ideas from social psychology become practical tools. Attribution habits, group identities, empathy, and unwritten rules of “you do this, I’ll do that” are constantly shaping what you think you see. Most of us never learned to spot them, let alone adjust them on purpose.
